Dplace Decides: Entrepreneurship Vs Paid Employment
More and more, the global community continues to encourage young people to become entrepreneurs and to start up businesses rather than seek paid employment in organizations. Underdeveloped and developing nations are now focused on promoting small and medium enterprises as a means to ensure rapid development of their countries. Nigeria has not been left out by implementing policies that support enterprise development such as recently, integrating entrepreneurship compulsorily into the curricula of higher institutions.

However, several questions still remain unanswered:
  • How effective have Nigerian policies been in supporting entrepreneurship?
  • Are universities really grooming practical entrepreneurs or is it merely theory?
  • Should working professionals become extinct in society?
  • Should we test Nigerian youths  for Entrepreneurship Aptitude?
  • What remains the major setback to promoting entrepreneurship in Nigeria?
  • Does Entrepreneurship really mean that I must have my own business?
  • Is the word “Entrepreneurship” misinterpreted in the Nigerian context?
  • Can I integrate the concept of entrepreneurship into my paid employment?
  • If everyone becomes an entrepreneur, where does the entrepreneur go to find labour?

This September,#DPlaceAbj seeks to provide the answers to these questions as we host a seasoned line-up of speakers to debate these issues. In a highly interactive session with the audience, the opposing panels through their years of experience gained from either working in organizations or running their own enterprises and in some cases, doing both will share their unique standpoints in an intense debate session.

Ultimately, the discussion will provide clear insight for all participants on where Nigeria really stands in the balance and how to better align personal goals and aspirations in order to make satisfying life choices.
