YOUTHS AND DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA

Young people have important roles to play to ensure sustainable development in Nigeria and to overcome the various challenges which the country currently faces including unemployment, corruption, insecurity, food shortage, illiteracy e.t.c

The role of youths as change agents in the community has been clearly recognised in the past, when the United Nations in 1985 drew the attention of the global community on the important roles of young people by declaring that year as International Youth Year for Development and Peace (Gonyok R.).

Young Nigerians have frequently employed initiative in various spheres of endeavour, pursuing commendable interests in the community to foster development over the years. With remarkable drive they have managed to implement the resources they possess to achieve commendable feats. These people are known as Youth Leaders in the Community.

Decipher Solutions, in line with its mission of finding solutions for Nigerian Youths and creating an economic future through smart innovations  will be hosting the Youth Leaders Dialogue IN COLLABORATION with Heinrich Boll Foundation in Abuja Nigeria. 

The program seeks to provide an enabling platform for young people to pool individual resources and develop a concise action plan through a dialogue session with 20 youth leaders in Nigeria further to creating a strong network of dedicated young people capable of supporting each other in individual projects of interest and develop an action plan upon which this goal can be achieved.

The Youth Leaders Dialogue will be a strategic session for developing strong policies in order to consolidate the efforts of individuals from various areas of social enterprise forward to achieving a more sustainable development plan in Nigeria in 2014.

The gathering will feature youths from different fields of Enterprise including (but not limited to) the following:

·         Education

·          Leadership and Motivation

·          Health

·         Entrepreneurship

·         Social Media

·         Agriculture and

·         ICT

The aim is to formulate a strategy for combined initiative in order to focus each individual’s efforts and present consolidated and solid contributions. The action plan developed will be shared with a global audience during and after the event with the support of Heinrich Boll Foundation.

Criteria for Participation:

The criteria for youth leaders to participate in the dialogue are:

• Must be active and currently involved in working with young people.
• Must have developed an initiative either in the past or at present in social enterprise.
• Must be below the age of 40.
•  Must be patriotic and believe in positive change in Nigeria.
• Must have volunteered/manage/own a humanitarian effort/project.

Sessions will feature a Strategic session with an action plan for collaboration as deliverable and Appointment of members to the Monitoring Committee.
