33Fifty: The Commonwealth Youth Leadership Programme

33Fifty is a leadership programme for young Commonwealth leaders aged between 18 and 25.The name comes from the fact that 33% of the world’s population lives in the Commonwealth, and 50% of those are under 25.

33Fifty aims to develop young leaders to bring people together, reconcile differences, lead change and use the Commonwealth’s networks effectively. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE about the programme.

The participants will tackle a challenge related to an issue of fundamental importance and relevance right across the Commonwealth. This will be explored through:

  • in-depth and real conversations with talented leaders from all sectors
  • behind-the-scenes visits to an incredible range of organisations and institutions
  • practical engagement with a challenge which is current and compelling across the Commonwealth.

Through taking part in 33Fifty, participants will gain:

  • leadership skills to help them in their studies, careers and civic life
  • the ability to make a difference to their communities, the Commonwealth and wider world
  • access to global networks and an alumni community of engaged Commonwealth citizens
  • Cultural Intelligence – the ability to thrive in multiple cultures.

33Fifty will run immediately prior to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, as part of the official cultural programme.

GLASGOW: JULY 17 AND 18
EDINBURGH: JULY 19 AND 20

The participants will explore Glasgow and Edinburgh, meeting local leaders from public, private and not-for-profit organisations as well as leaders from the wider Commonwealth gathered for Glasgow 2014.

Accommodation will be provided by the University of Glasgow and the University of Edinburgh during the programme. During the programme food and transport will also be provided.

IMPORTANT: Participants must make their own arrangements for transport to Scotland and flights and visas for the programme are your responsibility.Please remember that in order to be eligible for the programme you must be aged 18-25 on 17 July 2014 and hold citizenship of a Commonwealth nation or territory.

33Fifty is delivered in partnership by Common Purpose and the Royal Commonwealth Society.
